Dr. Faina Bryanskaya, Ph.D.                  A Teachers’ Teacher

FBrayn.jpgDr. Bryanskaya, an internationally acclaimed pedagogue, has been referred to as "Teacher of Teachers" and is known for her  lectures, solo/duo performances, workshops, adjudications, and master classes in Canada, Israel, the Netherlands, as well as all over Russia and  the US.  The author of  numerous books and articles, published in many countries, Dr. Bryanskaya is also a sponsor of some rare publications on piano music.

 Dr. Bryanskaya holds a M.A. with high honors and a Ph.D. from the Leningrad Conservatory, where she studied with legendary Nathan Perelman. She has been Professor of Piano Pedagogy at the  Leningrad  State Conservatory for 18 years and a founder and methodological adviser of the Advanced Training for Teachers of Music Schools, Colleges, and Conservatories in the former Soviet Union.

For 23 years, Dr. Bryanskaya  served as  Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy at the Longy School and Conservatory of Music, Cambridge MA. She has presented master classes and pedagogy workshops as a guest lecturer at Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ, and served as a faculty member at their summer programs for piano teachers. She has also taught at  Interharmony International Summer Music Festival, Hinterzarten, Germany, and  was director and faculty member at “Silesia International Music Festival” at Jelenia Gora, Poland.  

Her appearances include a live performance on WGBH Radio; “September Fest” and “Rhapsody in Black&White” Celebrating the Inauguration of New Steinway  at Longy School and Conservatory of Music; Smith Center of the Arts, Providence College  and more.

Dr. Bryanskaya has conducted Coaching/Teaching Demonstrations and Interactive Sessions at World Piano Pedagogy Conferences (2000, 2002, 2005), and gave presentations at a number of MTNA Conventions.

Her doctoral research in sight-reading has led to several articles and books published world-wide: The Key to Music Making, an innovative three-volume piano method; two volumes of Sight-reading textbooks for intermediate and advanced level; Teaching Fundamentals of Music-Making: A Holistic, Integrated Approach- a pedagogy guide for piano and music teachers, which includes her new findings and game-playing strategies for presenting music notation. Her book, Formation and Development of Sight-Reading Skills in the Early Stages of Piano Study; and her “Fortepiannaya Shkola  (Piano School) for Little Musicians with music stories and tales, adventures, and riddles” in 3 volumes were published in Moscow by Classica 21 in Russian.

Dr. Bryanskaya is a founder of her ingenious Piano Pedagogy Course and Summer Piano Pedagogy  Institute Teaching for XXI Century” at Longy School and Conservatory  of  Music, which she has been conducting for two decades.

Dr. Bryanskaya continues to teach piano and piano pedagogy, and her "Teaching in the XXI Century" course and her publications are in great demand in the USA, Russia, Canada and beyond.
